An interview with CEO Frank Trautwein on RAYLYTIC's history and vision
Building bridges: Improving patients' lives through connected care
Excerpt
In this employee testimonial, RAYLYTIC CEO Frank Trautwein details his motivation for founding the company.
He goes on to discuss the transformative impacts he believes RAYLYTIC’s products will have on health care research, the development of medical devices and pharmaceuticals, and, ultimately, the lives of patients.
As the CEO of the company, you are also at its heart. What drove you to found RAYLYTIC?
Throughout my career, I have worked at the intersection of the medical technology industry and hospitals. While increasingly stringent regulations have caused major changes in the industry, the work of physicians has remained largely unchanged. They seem to be spending more time than ever on repetitive and administrative tasks, leading to unprecedented levels of overload.
However, the MedTech industry needs to work closely with the healthcare community to develop safe and effective products. With doctors and nurses stretched to their limits treating patients, there is little room for research and collaboration.
This unfortunate situation called for a solution that did not yet exist. A product that would ease the growing clinical trial burden on the industry and make them more attractive as collaboration partner for hospitals. Something that would add value for hospitals, relieve clinicians by automating the tedious parts of their administrative work, that would allow them to do research “on autopilot”, and possibly assist them by providing personalized treatment decision support. Essentially, a product that fosters collaboration by providing value for ALL involved parties.
Looking back, I love challenges and complex, hard-to-solve problems. With what I have just described, I have not only found a meaningful task, but also a really serious problem in the global healthcare sector. A field of activity that combines medicine and technology and is immensely meaningful at the same time. That was exactly my topic!
"Knowing that we will improve medical knowledge and, in doing so, the quality of life of many patients, perhaps that of my own family, is incredibly motivating for me."
– Frank Trautwein, CEO of RAYLYTIC
Where do you see RAYLYTIC in five years?
By 2028, our products will define an ecosystem that significantly facilitates collaboration between different players in healthcare. An ecosystem consisting of our own applications and those of third-party manufacturers, generating medical knowledge at unprecedented speed and depth. Knowledge that is available to every patient, doctor and researcher to prevent and optimally cure diseases and to develop the most effective and safest products and medicines.
Like many CEOs you are not counting your hours. What fuels you?
I have been a “techie” all my life. I find it super exciting to be closely involved in the evolution of artificial intelligence and to develop technologies that have a connection to medicine and science.
Seeing the love users have for our product because we make their jobs easier is a very satisfying feeling. Knowing that we are improving medical knowledge and thus the quality of life of many patients, maybe even my own family, is incredibly motivating for me. But also, for example, realizing that we have defined the state of the art and probably a whole new product category.
