KIKS ―
CHANGING THE FUTURE
OF HEALTHCARE

THE KIKS PROJECT

The potential for AI-supported medical data analysis is enormous. Clinics, for example, need this data for research and to improve diagnosis and therapy. The medical device and pharmaceutical industry requires this data in clinical studies and to evaluate the quality and performance of their products.

Based on these needs, the idea for the KIKS project originated in Spring of 2019. Meanwhile, over 40 partners are in the process of developing a digital ecosystem, which will guarantee compliance with legal and ethical framework conditions through a state-of-the-art architecture and security technologies. The cloud-based platform will enable participants to use data-based applications and AI technologies in the health sector for their own purposes or to accelerate the development of new business fields and services.

KIKS is part of the innovation competition “Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a driver for economically-relevant ecosystems” and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).

FURTHER USE CASES

SARS-CoV-2
The main focus of UNITY and our contribution within KIKS is the digital automation of routine processes in the collection of clinical data. Research into pandemic outbreaks requires the coordination of research activities at the national and international level. In contrast, the automation functionality must be configurable at the local level down to individual clinics and practices. UNITY offers this flexibility.

By digitally automating the anamnesis, medical personnel are exposed to a lower risk of infection and relieved of administrative tasks. Patients, who do not require immediate care, can be interviewed automatically from home. UNITY can thus be used to automate the triage of patients – from the emergency room to the monitoring of patients in home quarantine.

The combination of data collected from patients with laboratory and treatment data, geographical data, sensor data from wearables or radiology data makes UNITY the leading scientific platform for data aggregation and analysis of highly granular medical data – in real time.

We will closely monitor the requirements and experiences of the current SARS-CoV-19 pandemic and contribute to the KIKS project. Through the possible connection to GAIA-X Health, we expect to be able to offer the system throughout the EU or even internationally in the future.
